Bug-O Systems products are well known in serving many industries such as shipbuilding, fabrication and transportation. What you may not be aware of is that our products are often used in nontraditional industries such as decommissioning projects, thermal spray and waterjet cutting. Whether you are a Distributor or an end user, we want to encourage out of the box thinking when it comes to finding the right fit for the automation of Bug-O’s welding and cutting machines. Listed below are examples of both current and nontraditional industries that we serve as well as additional detail regarding the nontraditional industries.
Current Industries Served

- Thermal Spray
- Sand Blasting / Surface Preparation
- Tie-downs/Anchor Point
- Occupational Hazards
Decommission Projects – facilities or items removed from active service such as: ships, submarines, aircraft, aircraft carriers, nuclear power plants, refineries, military or distribution facilities.
Waterjet Cutting – the use of equipment combined with a jet of water at high velocity and pressure to cut, shape or carve materials. Applications include armor plating, shaping, aircraft bodies, engine components, aluminum body parts, truck bed liners, bumpers and boat bodies.
Educational Centers such as Trade Schools, Union Halls and Colleges – utilize equipment in their welding/cutting programs such as cutting coupons for weld practice, weld test and certifications.
Thermal Spray – coating processes where metal is melted and applied to a surface, such as overlay. The purpose of overlay is to protect the base material from wear or corrosive environments. Weld overlay is a cost-effective way to increase a base material’s corrosion resistance. Some application examples of weld overlay include boiler tube walls, pressure vessel restoration and corrosion protection of continuous digesters in the paper industry.
Sand Blasting – effective way to strip and smooth a surface of a material in preparation to rejuvenate it and make it look new again. Some examples include cleaning to remove paint and rust on ship hulls, bridges and large structures.
Tie-downs/Anchor Points – used to hold down cargo or equipment during transport. Examples include trailers, boats, air cargo, aircrafts, campers, farm equipment and crate storage.
Occupational Hazards – unfriendly human environments where continuous exposure can result in injury or death. Exposure to chemicals, machinery mishaps, falls and dangerous conditions all contribute. Industries where occupational hazards are often found are: agriculture, building, construction, energy/ power and transport. Through the use of Bug-O mechanization, workers can distance themselves from welding fumes and work in comfortable positions monitoring the arc or cut made from a distance. This increases operator safety.
