BEAM BUG III: Beam Cutter

Reduces Material Handling, Cut Beams, Channels and Angles in Place

The BEAM BUG III is a lightweight, easy-to-carry, portable steel-cutting machine that cuts beams, channels, and angles from one rail setting. It produces smooth, square, accurate cuts and virtually eliminates grinding and touch-up. Now, you can take the machine to work and greatly reduce material handling costs.

Our angle-cutting machine reduces material handling costs by allowing you to cut beams, channels, and angles in place. This means less time moving materials to and from the cutting area, increasing efficiency and productivity. Trust Bug-O Systems for all your welding needs!

Features Of Our Beam Cutter:

  • Lightweight and portable
  • Push button clutch locks the machine onto the beam rail
  • Infinitely variable speed control
  • Single speed control sets both vertical and horizontal travel speed
  • Double-bearing wheels provide rigidity and accuracy
  • Made in USA

How Does Our Cutting System Work?

Position the BEAM BUG III onto the workpiece by placing the beam rail on top of the beam cutter. Powerful permanent magnets and beam clamps hold this rail in position. The beam rails allow you to make miter cuts on webs and, when positioned, on the flanges.

The carriage has a push-button clutch and locks onto the beam rail. You can easily remove it for handling and/or storage. A single speed control sets both vertical and horizontal travel speeds.

A toggle switch selects movement in either direction. Positive rack and pinion drives with infinitely variable speed control ensure precise cutting speeds. Limit switches prevent vertical (flange rail) overrun.

A quick-acting manifold controls the gases, eliminating repetitive torch adjustment. Double-bearing wheels provide rigidity and accuracy. The torch holder and torch swivel to the correct position, and positioning pins set bevel angles.

The BEAM BUG III has a 10″ (254 mm) two-hose machine torch and three cutting tips. (Specify fuel gas and voltage when ordering.)

Beam Rail

Use the BEAM BUG III with one of the following beam rails:

ARR-9114 – Beam Rail for Square Cutting Beams Only

This rail is designed specifically for square cuts on structural beams, offering a fixed configuration that simplifies setup and improves consistency. Ideal for fabricators requiring clean, straight cuts on standard profiles, it supports flange sizes ranging from 2″ to 18″ (50–450 mm) and web sizes of up to 14″ (350 mm)—a reliable choice for repeatable, precise square cuts.

ARR-9214 – Swivel Mounted Beam Rail for Web and Flange Cuts

A versatile swivel-mounted option for straight, bevel, coping, and miter cuts along the web of the beam. For flange miter cuts, simply rotate the beam. This rail is designed for operators who require a flexible cutting setup without repositioning heavy material. Compatible with a wide range of applications in construction, steel fabrication, and structural modification.

ARR-9236 – Swivel Mounted Beam Rail for Extended Web Applications

Identical in function to the ARR-9214 but engineered for wider web capacity. It accommodates 2″–18″ (50–450 mm) flanges and up to 66″ (1675 mm) web cuts. This option is ideal for cutting larger structural elements without repositioning, reducing time and increasing efficiency on bigger jobs.

ARR-9120 – Swivel Mounted Beam Rail for Maximum Web Capacity

Also based on the ARR-9214 design, this rail provides the largest cutting capacity, supporting up to 120″ (3050 mm) web sizes. It’s ideal for shipbuilding, bridgework, or other large-scale structural projects that require high flexibility and broad coverage without compromising cut precision.

ARR-9045 – Adjustable Beam Rail with 36″ Travel for Miter Cuts

This adjustable rail features two squaring bars and locking mechanisms for secure positioning. With 36″ (915 mm) of travel, it’s excellent for precise miter cuts on both webs and flanges. Suitable for shops and fieldwork where controlled angle cuts are frequently required and material space is limited.

ARR-9046 – Adjustable Beam Rail with 72″ Travel for Larger Cuts

Offering the same adjustable design as the ARR-9045 but with double the travel distance. This 72″ (1830 mm) version provides increased range for larger beams and longer cuts. It’s best suited for jobs that demand flexibility and accuracy in longer structural sections, such as fabrication yards or industrial maintenance work.
