GAWDA – Pittsburgh Regional Meeting 2015

Jun. 19, 2015

The 2015 GAWDA Pittsburgh Area Regional Meeting was held on Monday 15, June and Tuesday 16, June at Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Somerset Pennsylvania. It was sponsored by Butler Gas Products, a large family owned local gas distributor in Pittsburgh.

On Monday night, a good time was had by all as attendees enjoyed networking in a relaxed atmosphere in the Foggy Goggle Lounge. There was live music, BBQ dinner, and great conversation as everyone discussed projects and business. Bug-O Systems’ Norm Sted – Director of Domestic Sales & Marketing, Terry Bolinger – Regional Sales Manager and Mike Charles – Regional Sales Manager were in attendance, networking.

On Tuesday morning, everyone met in the Timberstone Room for breakfast and networking before the Business Education portion of the meeting. Paul Dillard, Regional VP and Partner for Arcet, discussed the recent merger of Arcet and Machine and Welding into a new company, ARC3 Gases. After giving a brief history of the Arcet brand, he discussed the decision making process and the formation of the new company. "We understand the M in merger as we did not feel one bought the other because both were powerhouses in their markets, so we did actually merge!”

The next speaker was Linda Standley, CEO of ILMO Products Company; she addressed talent management and success planning. Along with attracting and hiring the best talent, she stressed the need for companies to identify individual goals, participate in team training, and create success plans for individual employees. The last speaker was Pat Murphy, President of Linde North America. He spoke about industrial trends and the regulatory environment. Pat focused a great deal on the recent impact of the FDA on CO2 for the food and beverage industry. His message conveyed that welding and gas companies need to be aware of the global industrial gas market and the importance of finding pockets of profitable growth. Afterwards, a light lunch was served before everyone went to the course for a round of golf followed by a reception hosted by Don and Steve Rosenthal of Economy Welding.

The Pittsburgh regional meeting was well attended and Seven Springs was once again a great venue for this event. The combination of great networking opportunities as well as the informative business sessions created a well-rounded experience for everyone.
